Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Scroll Break ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application.
1. Data We Collect
- Email Address: We collect your email address only for login and account verification through Google Firebase Authentication.
- Local Usage Data: App usage statistics, preferences, and settings are stored locally on your device. We do not transmit or store this data on our servers.
Scroll Break does not collect the following types of information:
- Messages or typed text
- Passwords or login credentials
- Browsing history
- Photos or media files
- Screen recordings or screenshots
2. Permissions We Use
Scroll Break requires certain Android permissions to provide its core functionality:
- PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS: Used to monitor app usage time so Scroll Break can enforce user-defined usage limits.
- ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE: Scroll Break uses Android Accessibility Service to detect when selected apps, short-form scrolling screens (such as Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts), or blocked websites are opened. This allows the app to trigger reminders, cooldown timers, or blocking overlays to help users reduce endless scrolling.
- SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: Used to display reminder or blocking overlays when usage limits are reached.
- FOREGROUND_SERVICE & IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS: Used to keep Scroll Break running in the background so monitoring and reminders continue to function reliably.
- QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES: Used to detect installed apps so that users can choose which apps they want Scroll Break to monitor or restrict.
3. Accessibility Service Usage
Scroll Break uses the Android Accessibility Service API to support features that help users reduce distracting app usage and endless scrolling.
The Accessibility Service is used only for the following purposes:
- Detect when selected apps are opened
- Detect short-form scrolling interfaces such as Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts
- Detect blocked websites by observing browser address bar interface elements
- Display reminder or blocking overlays when usage limits are reached
Scroll Break only observes limited on-screen interface elements necessary to identify these app screens.
Scroll Break does not use Accessibility Service to read typed text, passwords, messages, or personal input fields.
Scroll Break does not collect, store, or transmit screen content or personal data obtained through Accessibility Service.
All accessibility-related processing occurs locally on the user's device.
The Accessibility Service feature is disabled by default and is only activated if the user manually enables it within the app.
4. How We Use Your Information
- Authenticate your account via Google Firebase.
- Store your usage preferences and settings locally on your device.
- Help enforce user-configured screen time restrictions.
5. Third-Party Services
Scroll Break uses Firebase Authentication by Google for account login and verification. Information processed by Firebase is subject to Google's
Privacy Policy.
6. Your Privacy Rights
Scroll Break stores usage settings and data locally on your device. You remain in full control of your data.
Users can disable Accessibility Service for Scroll Break at any time through Android Accessibility settings. Disabling the service will stop all accessibility-based features.
You may also uninstall the application at any time to remove locally stored data.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
